Karen Sauder, 2009 CAF Ad Woman of the Year
Posted by Josh Dysart, Manager, Corporate Communications

Draftfcb Chicago Managing Director Karen Sauder was honored as CAF Ad Woman of the Year yesterday during a luncheon at the Westin Chicago River North hotel. I was fortunate enough to attend the event—we had people calling/emailing asking for tickets up until the last minute—and it was a great to see the ballroom packed with people there to recognize Karen and her accomplishments.

You may remember Karen’s reaction when she was first notified of the honor back in May; her remarks were much the same. While this day, this event, was truly about her, she used her speech to focus on the places and people who have helped shape her career.

She talked about the vibrant ad community in Chicago, citing the mixture of established, familiar agency brands with new, discipline-focused agencies making their mark in the city. She noted the support of her family and friends (several of whom traveled to Chicago to make the event) in helping her to overcome personal and professional obstacles. And she graciously thanked her colleagues.

Day in and day out, Karen recognizes those around her for their hard work, their contributions to the team. She does this while taking a back seat, smiling at the opportunity to give others the credit they may not otherwise receive.

On Wednesday afternoon in front of 250+ people, Karen received the recognition she deserves. And even while she continued to thank others for her achievement, it was truly her day.

Congratulations, Karen!
