Draftfcb today announced the launch of its Institute of Decision Making. What’s this all about exactly? Well it has to do with understanding the instinctual triggers that influence consumer decisions and applying that expertise to attract new business and build better brand value for clients.
To find out more about what’s to come from this global group and its academic partners at Stanford and Berkeley, check out the video below from the Institute’s director, Draftfcb San Francisco Director of Strategic Planning Matthew Willcox.

Before departing for the holiday, I wanted to share a few exciting stories from some of our agency's key thought leaders:
On AdAge.com this week, Michael Fassnacht, Draftfcb's global chief strategy officer, and Jamie Shuttleworth, Draftfcb Chicago's chief strategic planning officer discuss the importance of “artscience marketing.”
And earlier in the week, it was officially announced that Tina Manikas, our global retail and promotions officer, will be the Jury President for the Promo & Activation Lions at Cannes Advertising Festival this year.
Among all of the other things that happened, it was an exciting week and a great way to start closing out the year. 10/30/2009Posted by Joshua Dysart, Manager, Corporate Communications
With the week drawing to an end, I wanted to let all of our friends and colleagues in Argentina know that Draftfcb Executive Chairman Howard Draft will be speaking at El Ojo de Iberoamerica next Tuesday, November 3. The presentation, “When Seconds Count,” will be held during the morning session, so if you’re interested in attending, please visit the El Ojo Web site to learn more. 10/12/2009

There was plenty to celebrate at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago last Thursday night as our work for the U.S. Postal Service was awarded a PRO Award in the Best Use of P-O-P category for the USPS Innovation Center. The Innovation Center is a fully operating Post Office that uses state-of-the-art retail technology and best retail practices. Since opening in June 2008, it has served as a learning lab for testing new ideas that can be rolled out nationally, and it hs had tremendous results.
The work can be seen by clicking here. Congratulations to everyone involved! 8/13/2009Posted by Josh Dysart, Manager, Corporate Communications
Draftfcb Chicago Managing Director Karen Sauder was honored as CAF Ad Woman of the Year yesterday during a luncheon at the Westin Chicago River North hotel. I was fortunate enough to attend the event—we had people calling/emailing asking for tickets up until the last minute—and it was a great to see the ballroom packed with people there to recognize Karen and her accomplishments.
She talked about the vibrant ad community in Chicago, citing the mixture of established, familiar agency brands with new, discipline-focused agencies making their mark in the city. She noted the support of her family and friends (several of whom traveled to Chicago to make the event) in helping her to overcome personal and professional obstacles. And she graciously thanked her colleagues.
Day in and day out, Karen recognizes those around her for their hard work, their contributions to the team. She does this while taking a back seat, smiling at the opportunity to give others the credit they may not otherwise receive.
On Wednesday afternoon in front of 250+ people, Karen received the recognition she deserves. And even while she continued to thank others for her achievement, it was truly her day.
Congratulations, Karen! 8/7/2009Posted by Chris Miller, SVP, Group Management Director, Digital, Draftfcb Chicago
That’s the headline from adweek.com on the latest Forrester report: The Forrester Wave™: US Interactive Agencies — Strategy And Execution, Q3 2009. For one agency, the one I’m at, Draftfcb, I’d flip it around to say: Leading integrated agency cited as a strong performing digital agency. Nice huh? It’s great recognition to be a holistic agency and ranked among a strong group of digital specialists.
It’s our first time being included in the Forrester Wave report and we’re especially excited as Brian Morrissey at Adweek calls out that “Forrester also noted the growing role of data management, with top agencies boasting mature analytics teams.”
Which for Draftfcb is a hallmark of what we do and stand for, which was picked up by Forrester in the report: “Draftfcb scores very well in strategy and measurement — especially due to several proprietary tools for audience insight and analytics such as Targetscape for social media listening, search-based perception mapping for gathering insight, and its ‘Smart Wall’ for data visualization.” In fact, scroll down to read some of Michael Fassnacht’s last couple posts to get his thoughts on data strategy and measurement.
Also see what Sean Corcoran, author of the report has to say on the Forrester blog about the "Agency landscape is coming to a crossroads"Look for more news from us soon, we’ve got three people presenting at Ad:Tech Chicago, Sept 1-2, and a number of great things in the works.

Standing in a conference room at the Chicago agency yesterday morning among a handful of colleagues, I overheard the following: “we work for the best large company to work for in Illinois, led by the Ad Woman of the Year.”
Well said. And true.
It started Tuesday evening when the Chicago HR team accepted the ‘Best Large Company to Work For in Illinois” honor from The Illinois State Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Managers and The Business Ledger.
Flash forward to Wednesday morning, as Chicago’s Managing Director, Karen Sauder, was surprised with some fantastic news - she had been named the Chicago Advertising Federation’s (CAF) 2009 Advertising Woman of the Year.
Moments later, I heard the quote referenced earlier, and really, the two distinctions go hand in hand. It was something that Karen pointed out indirectly as she learned of the honor from the CAF.
Karen Sauder
It’s true. We are a team. A team with excellent leadership…which is why Draftfcb Chicago is such a great place to work.

There’s been some exciting news for our network the last few days. As I was typing the first half of this post last night, news of the second announcement came through so I wanted to wait in getting the word out. And rather than completely re-write everything, I’m going to treat this as a two-in-one entry.
Piece of exciting news #1
Michael Fassnacht, a regular contributor to DRAFTFCBlog, earned a well-deserved promotion this week, being named the agency’s worldwide chief strategy officer. For those of you have been following his posts, you know that Michael is a data guru—very insightful on the subject and state of the industry, and he always has a lot to say.
The press release hit the internet this morning, and our CEO and President Laurence Boschetto issued an agency-wide memo announcing the news internally earlier this week. In his memo, Laurence noted:
As one of our most published and well-regarded thought leaders, Michael's vision is to more tightly integrate the thinking and expertise of our world-class practice leaders, while developing intellectual property that can be used across our client base. He also has the strategic sensibility, the experience and the focus to take a long-term view and help define the kind of agency we're going to be in five years, then help get us there.
When Michael talks, clients listen closely, and they invariably get something out of the exchange. That's why he'll maintain his close connection to several clients, while helping to coordinate major new business opportunities that span offices and regions.
So congratulations, Michael. And if you haven’t been following him, I suggest you do. Reading some of this thoughts and observations is like exercise for the brain, which is always a good thing.
Piece of exciting news #2
Equally as exciting, Laurence issued another memo yesterday evening regarding a fantastic recognition given to Draftfcb Healthcare. The agency was named Agency of the Year by Med Ad News – again! -- at the Manny Awards Wednesday night. They were also awarded a Manny for the Best Disease Awareness Campaign for Centocor Inc. “The agency was recognized for having added 21 accounts in 2008, and for expanding their digital, managed markets, and medical-education offerings,” noted Laurence in his remarks.
Congratulations to Dana Maiman and Tom Domanico and the entire Draftfcb Healthcare team! 4/9/2009Posted by Kim Luegers, Director of Media Innovations, Draftfcb Chicago's MC Media
I wanted to send a HUGE congratulations to our friends at Draftfcb Chicago who were just named AOR for Miller Lite. I know that you guys (and girls) will take the Miller Lite brand to a whole new level. Your consistent communication platform on the Coors Light brand is proof positive you know how to sell beer, and the entire MC Media team is looking forward to planning and placing your great work in front of millions of KBDs (key beer drinkers).
